Completed in 1916 at a cost of $110,000, the Deveny Building sits on the corner of Monroe and Adams Street in the Downtown Fairmont Historic District.
Originally, the first floor had large storefront windows, which were filled in once the businesses vacated. Also on the original structure were two-story Roman arched windows stretching from the fifth through sixth floors. They were replaced with single-story, rectangular windows that remain on the structure today. In 1925, the two upper floors were transformed from lodge quarters into offices. The former two-story lodge room space was separated into two floors. It is also believed that the cornice at the roof was added at this time.
The building was used as office space from 1925 to 2003, when Vandalia Heritage Foundation took ownership.
Currently, Vandalia is planning for potential future uses of this important part of downtown Fairmont's history.
